This year’s Great Spec-Collect will last longer, giving you 4 months to look out your old glasses, or possibly book your eye test, before the 31 May deadline
A big thank you to all those who wear glasses and donated their old pairs to the Lions Great Spec Collect last month.
Altogether 984 pairs were handed in at Bannisters, Vision Express & Alan Tyler opticians and at the Knowle Fun Run. A SPEC-TACULAR result.
You will pleased to know they have already been packaged up ready to go off to our sister Lions Club in Chichester who act as a Lions hub to collect, sort and distribute them as far as eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.
This is what they looked like when being counted:
We have already been asked whether there will be a second Great Spec Collect next May? We are sure if enough people ask it will happen.
Our May Great Spec Collect is going well with many pairs already donated at the Knowle Fun Run and also at local opticians:
There is a deadline of 31 May so please don’t hold back and rifle through your drawers and find your old pairs (it does not matter if they are broken) and pop them into our special boxes at our opticians.
We shall be collecting them together and boxing them up to send to our sister Lions Club in Chichester who act as a Lions hub to collect, sort and distribute them as far as eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.
When President Bob Thurtle arrived at Alan Tyler Optician in Dorridge to handover the box for collecting donated used spectacles he was promptly given a box full already collected – and collection is only due to last for the month of May!
“It seems all our opticians are keen to support our initiative,” said Bob. “I am delighted that they have already started collecting and hope that by the end of May we shall have several boxes full of glasses to send to our sister Lions Club in Chichester to be sorted and distributed as far as eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.”
Don’t forget to look in your drawers and bring your old ones along to:
Alan Tyler in Dorridge
Vision Express or Bannister’s in Knowle
The Heritage Centre or the Hub@Henley in Henley-in-Arden
Alternatively, why not bring them along to Arden Academy on Knowle Fun Run day Sunday 15 May, and drop them in a box in the Registration Hall
Throughout May Knowle and Dorridge Lions want your old spectacles.
Working with their sister Lions Club in Chichester your old pairs of used glasses will be collected, sorted and distributed as far as eye clinics in Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.
Don’t worry if your spectacles are broken because they will be recycled for their scrap metal and the funds used to support eye related projects both in the U.K. and overseas.
Knowle and Dorridge Lions are being supported by our local opticians:-
Throughout May please take your old specs to any of these outlets.
Also on Sunday 15th May at the Knowle Fun Run bins will be available for you to drop your old specs in.
So please start searching those drawers and let us make May the Great Spec-Collect.
