17th Festive Walk All Time Record

We were delighted when extra publicity coupled with ideal walking conditions brought out record crowds of walkers for our Festive Walk on the Monday after Christmas

Over 850 people set off with a choice of 4, 8 or 10 mile sign-posted walks around Baddesley Clinton. Over £4,000 was received in donations to Teenage Cancer Trust, Parkinson’s Disease Society, fly2help and local Lions causes during the day, and we are hopeful that those collecting sponsorship will eventually double this figure

The snowy weather over Christmas and with more forecast for the following days seemed to motivate people to take advantage of the freezing cold but dry day, with many tackling the longer 8 & 10 mile sign-posted routes this year. Many locals who turn up every year and others that travel from further afield say it’s great to get out and get some good fresh country air and walk off the Christmas pudding with friends and family. Afterwards walkers enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies with the Lions. We thank the National Trust for allowing us to use Baddesley Clinton NT House which provides a great setting for the Festive Walks

Parkinson’s Disease SocietyPDS Logo Blue Portrait

There are almost 11,000 people in the West Midlands with Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative brain condition affecting everyday movements such as walking, talking and swallowing. One in twenty of these people are under the age of 40, have young children and a promising career at the time of diagnosis. There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease and no way to halt its progression.

Entirely funded by voluntary donations, the Parkinson’s Disease Society provides emotional, practical, financial and medical support to people with Parkinson’s and their families. The Society is also the UK’s leading non-commercial funder of research into Parkinson’s, searching for improved treatments and ultimately a cure.

Teenage Cancer TrustTCT

Teenage Cancer Trust ensures that every young person with cancer and their family receives the best possible care and professional support.

The charity is running a £1million appeal in the West Midlands to help build a specialist teenage cancer unit for 13 – 16 year olds. The six bed unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, will compliment the recently refurbished unit at the University Hospital for older teenagers and young people up to 24. Teenage Cancer Trust will also be enhancing a ward and providing recreational facilities at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital – ultimately providing young people from the West Midlands with some of the best facilities and options in the country.

Turning Ordinary Days into Extraordinary Adventures!

Via the medium of flight, fly2help works with families, individuals, groups and like-minded charities to stretch physical, mental and emotional boundaries that have been set by life trauma or tragedy.

fly2help is committed to supporting anyone who could benefit, regardless of age or circumstance, typically supporting the terminally ill, chronically sick and bereaved.  In addition, there are those who simply need a life boost; including those who face neglect and abuse, and those facing exclusion from society on a regular basis as a result of mental ill-health, sickness, disability, injury or financial deprivation.
