at

Baddesley Clinton National Trust House, B93 0DQ

(5 miles from junction 5 M42) (map)

Start anytime from 10am, finish by 4pm - Tuesday 27 December 2011

INCREDIBLE, that’s the only word for it. Over 1700 joined us on 27 December for best walking weather that we can remember, dry and relatively warm, and raised over £10,000 for our worthy causes. That’s an all time record and double the previous best 2 years ago when 800 walkers tackled sheet ice in the car park and 2010 when 750 ploughed through several inches of snow

If you could not make it you can download the route map here and follow it at your leisure

Thanks to everyone who made the day a great success

We shall be back on Sunday 30th December, but in the meantime watch out for details of our new Summer Walk for Macmillan Cancer Care on Sunday 8th July

Baddesley House ready to open for Festive Walkers

Time to brush the mud off those boots and walk off some Christmas pudding and at the same time raise some money for charity

Why not join in our 19th annual charity Festive Walk Last year over 750 walkers joined us in the snow and helped us raise funds for our designated charities.  This year we will be walking for the Alzheimer’s Society, Crossroads Care, Dorridge & Knowle Scouts and local causes (see below).

We have now re-measured this years walks - there will be a choice of nearly 4, 6 and 7.5 mile sign-posted circular routes along country lanes, canal towpaths and public footpaths, some with stiles, passing a number of pubs happy to serve refreshments.

After your walk collect your certificate and join the Lions for mince pies and mulled wine

As usual dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome providing they keep their considerate owners on a lead

Entry is FREE but we would appreciate a donation for our nominated charities. You may download a registration form to complete and bring with you to save time on the day.  Why not download a sponsorship form and get your efforts sponsored for our nominated charities or designate your own special worthy cause

Help us publicise our Festive Walk, please print our poster and display it on notice boards at work, schools, clubs, pubs etc. and forward this page to everyone you think may be interested.  Word of mouth remains the most effective form of publicity so please mention it to everyone you know Put it on your Festive calendar now and bring your friends and family along

Alzheimer’s Society

Alzheimer’s Society provides information, education, support and care to help people with dementia live their lives to the full. There are currently 2240 people with dementia in the Solihull area and this will rise to 2956 people by 2021. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain and can affect anyone, there is currently no cure

At Solihull service we provide advice, dementia support service, dementia cafes and day respite. Our services are free to everybody who needs help with all aspects of dementia care. Dementia is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones

Crossroads Care (Birmingham and Solihull)

Crossroads Care is Britain’s leading provider of support for carers and the people they care for. We help carers make a life of their own outside caring. Our trained staff provide flexible services to people of all ages and with a range of disabilities and health conditions, whilst the family carer takes a well-earned break from caring

As a charity, we care for people, not for profit. If you would like to find out if Crossroads Care can help you, please get in touch

Knowle and Dorridge Scouts will share the third nomination

Dorridge Scout Grouplogo

Dorridge Scout Group provides Scouting for children and young people within the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council area of Knowle, Solihull and Hampton-in-Arden.  We have over 300 young people pass through the centre every week supported by 62 adult and young adults.  This makes us, by far, the largest Scouting centre in Solihull Scout County and one of the largest in the Country

The Scout Association has the following clear purpose: To help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local national and international communities

We are currently raising funds to refurbish our meeting place and replace equipment so Scouting is assured in the area for the next generation

First Knowle Scout Group

1st Knowle Scout  Group  has 130 beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers meeting in the hut  just off St John’s Close

The existing premises were built in the 1960s and are in desperate need of updating and refitting the interior to meet 21st century standards

We have used our own resources and funds raised from the local community to start the work and ensure the building can continue to be used. These are now exhausted but there is still work to do

The Group has been providing Scouting in Knowle for over 100 years and we are keen that continue to do so for the next 100 !

Local causes

We shall also retain upto 30% of the proceeds from this year’s event for locally identified causes. If you know of such a worthy cause, please let us know

Baddesley Clinton House

This atmospheric house dates from the 15th century and was the home of the Ferrers family for 500 years. The house and interiors reflect its heyday in the Elizabethan era, when it was a haven for persecuted Catholics  and there are three priest’s holes. There is a delightful garden with stewponds and a romantic lake and nature walk

2010

It’s a BIG thank you to over 750 walkers and numerous dogs who were not put off by snow, slush, fog and ice and joined in our 18th Festive Walk and donated over £3,800 on the day. In total we netted over £5,000 for our nominated charities - Warwickshire & Northants Air Ambulance, Stroke Association, Dorridge & Knowle Scouts and local causes

2009

We were delighted when extra publicity coupled with ideal walking conditions brought out record crowds of walkers for our Festive Walk on the Monday after Christmas

Over 850 people set off with a choice of 4, 8 or 10 mile sign-posted walks around Baddesley Clinton. In total they raised over £6,800, including over £4,000 in donations on the day, for Teenage Cancer Trust, Parkinson’s Disease Society, fly2help and local Lions causes.

The snowy weather over Christmas and with more forecast for the following days seemed to motivate people to take advantage of the freezing cold but dry day, with many tackling the longer 8 & 10 mile sign-posted routes this year. Many locals who turn up every year and others that travel from further afield say it’s great to get out and get some good fresh country air and walk off the Christmas pudding with friends and family. Afterwards walkers enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies with the Lions. We thank the National Trust for allowing us to use Baddesley Clinton NT House which provides a great setting for the Festive Walks
