This year’s beneficiaries will be

Alzheimer’s Society

Alzheimer’s Society provides information, education, support and care to help people with dementia live their lives to the full. There are currently 2240 people with dementia in the Solihull area and this will rise to 2956 people by 2021. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain and can affect anyone, there is currently no cure

At Solihull service we provide advice, dementia support service, dementia cafes and day respite. Our services are free to everybody who needs help with all aspects of dementia care. Dementia is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones

Crossroads Care (Birmingham and Solihull)

Crossroads Care is Britain’s leading provider of support for carers and the people they care for. We help carers make a life of their own outside caring. Our trained staff provide flexible services to people of all ages and with a range of disabilities and health conditions, whilst the family carer takes a well-earned break from caring

As a charity, we care for people, not for profit. If you would like to find out if Crossroads Care can help you, please get in touch

Dorridge Scout Group

Dorridge Scout Group provides Scouting for children and young people within the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council area of Knowle, Solihull and Hampton-in-Arden.  We have over 300 young people pass through the centre every week supported by 62 adult and young adults.  This makes us, by far, the largest Scouting centre in Solihull Scout County and one of the largest in the Country

The Scout Association has the following clear purpose: To help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local national and international communities

We are currently raising funds to refurbish our meeting place and replace equipment so Scouting is assured in the area for the next generation

First Knowle Scout Group

1st Knowle Scout  Group  has 130 beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers meeting in the hut just off St John’s Close

The existing premises were built in the 1960s and are in desperate need of updating and refitting the interior to meet 21st century standards

We have used our own resources and funds raised from the local community to start the work and ensure the building can continue to be used. These are now exhausted but there is still work to do

The Group has been providing Scouting in Knowle for over 100 years and we are keen that continue to do so for the next 100 !

2011 Sell out

This year we SOLD OUT all the tickets and raised around £2500What a result!  We put this down to the late Easter, fantastic weather attracting more customers than usual, popular charities and of course very generous customers. Sorry to those who missed the opportunity to support us this year.

Eamonn from Hockley Heath was really pleased to win and was looking forward to taking the basket of chocolates and eggs to Normandy with him where his family and grandchildren were looking forward to tucking into the chocolate over Easter

Jeanne explained that she had been especially keen to buy the raffle tickets as her husband had suffered a stroke last year and part of the proceeds would be going to the Stroke Association

2010

In 2010 we focussed our fundraising on Johnny Rigby’s Black Boy P.H. on the Warwick Road at Chadwick End, where we sold raffle tickets for a huge basket selection of Thorntons Easter Eggs worth over £60

We sold nearly £1300 worth of tickets in aid of Parkinson’s UK, Teeneage Cancer Trust & fly2help. The winning ticket was no. 009126 purchased by Melissa Bell from Solihull. Melissa’s Mum said ‘the prize could not have been won by a better chocoholic’. Melissa was concerned what eating them all would do for her figure.

2009 Success

2009 was no exception when we held raffles at the Drum and Monkey & Black Boy. We were pleased to announce we raised over £2450 for Macmillan Cancer Support, Whizz-Kidz, Lions Campaign SightFirst ll as well as local causes.

The winners, both local ladies, both had a tale to tell:

Simone Fox from Knowle had her 40th birthday the day we delivered her prize basket and

Jayne Stoddart from Bentley Heath had already entered for the Knowle Fun Run and promised that the Easter eggs would not get in the way of her training – honest!
