Elderly and Needy

Coach trips for the elderlyKeeping in touch with the elderly is one of the ways in which we fulfil our brief to serve that local community.

Each year we charter two coaches and invite the elderly of our area to enjoy a day trip out. In recent years we have visited Chester and Ludlow, this year it is Weston Super Mare.

Also during the Autumn we arrange afternoon tea parties with entertainment at the Royal British Legion in Knowle and St Phillips Church Hall in Dorridge.

Early in December we have our annual door-to-door tins collection and deliver Christmas cards and parcels when visiting the elderly and needy. We are really grateful for the food generously donated. We usually have sufficient to enable us to provide some to the needy in the inner City and the homeless through the Fireside Centre in Birmingham City Centre.

Of course every year there are newcomers to the ranks of the elderly and others move on. We should be most grateful for your help in keeping our records up to date. We are especially concerned to know of anyone who may be lonely or living alone. But we prefer to know of everyone who has reached their senior years and will be eligible for our help.

If you know of someone (or are someone) living in Knowle, Bentley Heath, Dorridge or Hockley Heath who is over 70 and who has not been the recipient of a Christmas card from the Lions or been contacted about any of the events organised by the Lions, please get in touch.
